April P1: Springtime

I‘ve never liked staying indoors for long, especially in spring when flowers begin to blossom and the world starts becoming more colourful. Walking, the access to nature, the changes in scenery etc have always been a form of medicine for me. Spending a whole day inside has always felt like a miserable concept. But, feeling drained after an eventful few weeks, even going as far as the nearest park bench (5 mins at most) was out of the question for several days and believe me I tried. I’m very fortunate to have a nice garden though, and I kept my muscles working by walking around it a few times. Also, the swing seat has been getting a lot of use on sunny days!

I’ve started practising my violin a little. Progress is much slower than I’m used to, I can’t play for long before my arms or back start aching. It’s totally worth it though. I also rediscovered the piano. I didn’t know how much I missed it until I got emotional while playing. My time has also been spent organising and decluttering my room, revising A-Level maths (I just really LOVE numbers) and even an afternoon out!

Now for some photos…

2nd April, Home

I was still tired, recovering and de-stressing but I’ve really enjoyed taking photos recently, and I really wanted to find something beautiful to photograph. Luckily I didn’t have to go far. Whilst walking up and down our garden, I noticed how lovely our neighbour’s tree is. It overhangs into our garden so we get to admire it too.

5th April, Home

Once again I only had to go as far as the garden to spot (no pun intended) something I wanted to photograph. This ladybird was so vibrant, and really stood out against the leaves. It’s got to be a really common site, and maybe seems insignificant. But I truly think that if more people took the time to admire such things, the world would be a much better place.

An Outing (6th April, MAC)

I went to the Nature Centre and saw some great creatures, however before that I just happened to see this at an art exhibition in the Midlands Art Centre. In case the letters aren’t easy to read it says “What will you do with your anger?”
It was like the artist had been inside my mind, not only because I had just had a very similar journey but also because I had recently poored my heart into a piano. Art, in any form, is truly a vessel for emotion/passion, and so I felt a connection with the piece. Honestly though, I think it’s something that most people will be able to relate to in some way. It probably speaks to many of us, if not all.

Ok, it’d be cruel to mention that I visited the Nature Centre and not include any pictures. We only walked around a fraction of it so I am definitely going to plan another visit. Of the animals we did see, this Capuchin monkey was my favourite, it seems to share my love of apples! The Komodo dragon (named Pete) was my mum’s favourite. She wants one as a pet, maybe I should be concerned…

Musing (8th April, Woods)

Strolling to the nearby woods, I found something poetic in seeing a single dandelion (to many, a weed) towering above the rest of the greenery. Here is a true survival game where it was the odd one out, the outcast, that reached the highest and now stands tall and proud. There is a message in here somewhere! Maybe to stay true to yourself?  To ignore the judgments of others? That dandelions are actually quite cool?

Quack! (11th April, Highbury Park)

I’ve enjoyed watching ducks over the last several months. During the winter when part of this pond was covered in a layer of ice, it was hilarious watching the ducks make their way across it. Some were taking it very slowly and carefully, a few chose to run/slide. A few times they would slip and fall. Somehow most were much more successful than when I’ve attempted to ice skate which doesn’t seem fair! Anyway, back to the present, I caught a photo of this guy mid quack! I wonder what he was saying…

It has been a much slower paced couple weeks, I have needed the rest. My legs don’t ache quite as much though so I can now go a bit further than my back garden! I have been able to focus on things a little better too. I am about 2 weeks into a trial of levothyroxine for my under-active thyroid. It’s hard to tell whether I’m feeling a bit less uncomfortably cold/shivery because it’s starting to kick in already or because the weather is improving. Both are good things though, I almost don’t mind! Soon I might even be able to stop wearing leggings under my trousers, and go down to a single pair of socks!
